From 17 May to mid-November, over 16,000 whales migrate along our coastline, with peak viewing from mid-June to mid-July. Catch them up close from land during their northward journey or join a boat tour as they head south.
While sightings in the harbour are rare, whales have been spotted at Rose Bay, Middle Head, Bondi, and Botany Bay over the years.
For your best chance, visit one of the many coastal lookouts on either side of Sydney Harbour — North Head and South Head are easily accessible by public transport.
